I just love Diana Krall. I've always wanted to play from her songbook.
I think I can find charts for most of them. Here are some of my favorites.
I've put them in chronological order. Feel free to listen to them all or
just a few and decide which ones are you're favorites and maybe we
can put them together.
From her 1996 CD, "All for You" A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio. No drums on this one. Nice guitar opening. Ain't I Good To You There are a lot of great songs on the Nat King Cole trubute, but this is one of my favorites. She also does a nice version of this on her live album. 'Deed I Do Another great guitar intro. A nice example of an arrangement that could easily be done as a trio, as could all of these. You Call It Madness From her 1997 CD, Love Scenes. This is a great arrangement, nice bass solo for an intro, this is perfect for gigs like "Du Vin." All Or Nothing At All How Deep Is The Ocean I Don't Know Enough About You I Don't Stand a Ghost Of A Chance They Can't Take That Away From Me You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me Another fabulous CD from 1999, When I Look In Your Eyes. She does "Devil May Care" on her 2002 Live CD where she picks up the tempo. Devil May Care Devil May Care...2002 live version East Of The Sun I've Got You Under My Skin Let's Face The Music And Dance Let's Fall In Love The Best Thing For You Her 2001 CD uses a full orchestra, but when you listen to the combo through the violins you can hear great trio potential. I'd like to be part of a project that performs some nice covers and also
incorporates original compositions from the members. It would be nice to
do a few Jam songs as a way to coax new ideas into the project. Here are
some of the songs I'm listening to now.
Please feel free to contact me with your own ideas for covers, or just some of your own ideas. I like house music and thought I would start with a remix of a Brecker Brothers tune. Ideo Funk If you like John Scofield, here is a saxophone player that colaborates with him. Megalopolis Ikiaka gave me some Robert Glasper stuff to listen to. This is worth listening to. Jelly's Da Beeneer Rise and Shine Mood He also slid me some Avishai Cohen which has led me to listen to more recording artists from New York. Avishai Cohen's "As Is...Live At The Blue Note" CD has great feeling. Smash Dror Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green. Playing with Stones Dror I dig the groove on this tune. Diabolus Of course, if you're going to cover jazz, you have to do some Soulive. Flurries Roll the Tape Just about my favorite band is Mother Funk Conspiricy. I came close to doing these with a couple of different bands, but they require a bit of rehearsal, as do most of these tunes.
